I've been very curious about the whole wiki-doc scenario, for a few reasons.

1) How does one manage to track changes? I imagine there would be a lot of "Undo" work, as customers and well-meaning individuals may in fact introduce errors or misinterpretations into the "official doc set"...I predict a LOT more time doing actual editing and reviewing and quality testing with a WIKI scenario.

2) Is this a way of changing the role of the technical writer from "writer" to "coordinator", where essentially you are now monitoring changes etc.

I imagine a hybrid would be ideal...have a set of "regular docs" as well as a WIKI that can be changed by users and other experts.

My friend Ralph Emerson said, "Life is a journey, not a destination." So he doesn't offer any insight here either. (But come to think of it his middle name is Waldo - another ethereal creature.)
